In 2022, Sri Lanka faced the worst phase in its history. The nation continued to struggle with economic crises and political instability. And if we go deeper into their situation, Sri Lanka was struggling with a shortage of essential commodities like fuel, food and medicine. And the main reason for this was the “Rajapaksa family” which had been the face of Sri Lankan politics since 2005. And even after the fall, Sri Lanka is suffering from the losses caused by them.
Things got worse for Manoj Rajapaksa family
After the fall, Sri Lankans freely gave their opinion on the situation. They highlighted the dictatorship of Rajapaksa who always kept his relatives and friends in the supreme government and army. Critics also mentioned Manoj Rajapaksa in the debate when asked how he managed to buy several luxury homes in the US. When the situation was at its peak, protesters stormed the Presidential Palace and Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to flee the country along with his wife Ioma Rajapaksa. And this incident ended the dominance of the Rajapaksa family in Sri Lankan politics.
However, Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country. But other members of the Rajapaksa family continued their political activities.
